BMS Motorsport driver Samantha Reid has finished ninth in today’s second Australian Formula Ford Championship race at the Clipsal 500, continuing the consistent improvement that she has shown this weekend.

In demanding 34-degree temperatures, Reid started 10th in today’s race and was able to dice competitively with the leading bunch of competitors in this weekend’s 21-car Formula Ford Field.

18-year-old Reid ran as high as eighth in the early stages of today’s 10-lap encounter on the 3.2km Adelaide street circuit, before settling into ninth place in the second half of the event.

A ferocious battle with factory Mygale driver Dale Wood was a feature of the final few laps, the pair never separated by more than a few tenths of a second in the final few laps before the checkered flag.

Today’s ninth place result has seen Reid add a further two championship points to her 2006 tally, with a further race remaining tomorrow for her to continue to improve her way up the ranks.

“I’m much happier with the way things went today when compared to the rest of the weekend,” Reid enthused after the race this morning.

“There was so much happening out there – it was pretty busy. You have to keep your wits about you and really think about the racing which I really enjoyed.

“it was good to be able to race with some of the guys at the front and stay with them. Hopefully we can close the gap a bit further for the last race tomorrow and improve some more.

“The racing was close with (Dale) Wood at the end of the race. We were side by side heading down the straight and I almost ran out of road on the inside of the road which was interesting,” she added.

“But it was a good battle and it was really nice to get a good result.”

The final race of three will be held tomorrow morning at 8:10am and will see the BMS Motorsport entry start ninth.
